Heather Birley

Contemporary East Midlands

Heather joined the Dance4 Centre for Advanced Training programme in 2011 and then continued her training full time at London Contemporary Dance School in 2014. At the end of the second year Heather was awarded the Cohan Scholarship.

Following her full-time training Heather then spent a year in Stockholm, Sweden where she joined the Cullbergballeten Dance Company as an apprentice dancer, where she also completed an MA. Following this Heather spent time exploring her own creative practice which has included time spent back here at iC4C in residence as part of our Open Doors programme.

Heather is currently working on a commission in collaboration with music ensemble Loom for their work Propellor, which will be presented at Nottingham Lakeside Arts on Saturday 7 March 2020. The commission has been supported by Dance4 and Nottingham Lakeside Arts

CAT is where I was first introduced to contemporary dance. I experienced many pivotal moments whilst on the CAT scheme and continue to be influenced by my time on the program. CAT enabled me to meet like-minded people with similar interests and passion, I keep in contact with many of the friends I made at CAT and have gone onto train and work with a lot of them.
