This page is about Xzibit Young Creatives 2020 opportunity and has now passed.
Curated by Nottingham based dance artist Gareth Woodward and supported by Inspire Arts, Nottingham Lakeside Arts and Dance4, Xzibit Young Creatives 2020 (XYC 2020) provides a unique opportunity for young people to create and present their own choreography in professional venues around the East Midlands.
XYC 2020 is an award winning choreographic and talent development programme for young people aged between 11-19 years old. Each young choreographer creates their own work making all decisions, selecting dancers, lighting, costume, sound and movement content while being mentored by high profiled professional dancers and choreographers and supported throughout by programme leaders Gareth and Jasmine.
The collection of works created is curated into a series of ‘Xzibits’ which are performed at events which showcase the high-quality youth dance work, created and performed by the young people. XYC 2020 celebrates a diverse range of ideas from young people and encourages those from different dance styles to get involved.
Gareth has been developing the programme, working with partners across the East Midlands including artsNK, Déda, The Core at Corby Cube and Curve. XYC 2020 will be delivered in a bespoke way in each county. In Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire, the young people involved will be able to attend weekly sessions in the lead up to their performance events, and in Lincolnshire, Derbyshire and Northamptonshire XYC 2020 will run intensively during holiday periods with performances at the end of each programme.
