New for 2021, East meets West as DanceXchange, (Birmingham), comes together with Dance4 (Nottingham), to deliver MY (Midlands Youth) Dance Digital 2021, a celebration of youth dance across the whole of the Midlands region.
Taking place on Saturday 10 April, this exciting online event will bring together young people from across the region through dance and creativity. Taking part is easy, with opportunities for everyone, including a digital showcase of participants’ work and online workshops delivered by renowned choreographers and artists.
MY Dance Digital 2021 is the Midlands regional platform of U.Dance, which is delivered in partnership with One Dance UK. U.Dance is a national celebration of performance by young people aged 11 – 19 years, and up to 25 years for young people with disabilities, and welcomes dancers performing any style or genre.
Dance groups, schools and individuals who take part in My Dance Digital 2021 will be featured in an exclusive film and potentially be selected for the U.Dance National Festival.
Applications for MY Dance Digital 2021 are now open
For this year applications are open for individuals or groups who are meeting remotely and wish to develop a dance piece on screen.
Applications must include film footage of the piece intended to be performed. Deadline for entries: 5pm, Wednesday 31 March
– No more than 30 dancers
– Dancers must be aged 11 to 19 years on 31 July 2021.
– Disabled dancers up to age 25 years are allowed.
– You must be working within Covid-19 guidance that is appropriate for your setting
– Submit a dance piece which is between 2 and 7 minutes in duration.
– Be based in the UK and involve dancers who live in the UK
Regional Selection Criteria:
– Demonstrate excellence in performance
– Present excellent and engaging choreography
– Dancers showing clear ownership of the choreography, appropriate for their age and experience
– Demonstrate respect and consideration
Considerations for National Selection:
– Reflect the diversity of dance styles practiced by young people across the UK
– Creation of an interesting and varied performance
– Showcase excellent and authentic work from both schools and youth dance setting
BEFORE YOU APPLY YOU MUST READ OUR APPICATION GUIDANCE NOTES & GOOD PRACTICE GUIDE:
Select groups will be chosen by a panel of regional dance professionals to take part in MY Dance Digital. Groups will be notified no later than Thursday 8 April 2021.
MY Dance Event
On Saturday 10 April there will be a variety of free workshops, starting from 11am for young people aged between 13-25 to enjoy. You can find more about the free MY Dance workshops here as well as booking.
The day will end at 6pm with a screening of the work from the selected groups, which will be screened over Vimeo. More information about the screening and the link will be shared soon.
My Dance Challenge
MY Dance Challenge invites you to be part of the the MY Dance Digital 2021 event happening Saturday 10 April. Learn the challenge choreographed by Jamaal Burkmar (Extended Play Dance), create your own twist and upload it to be part of the MY Dance Digital 2021 Film which will be premiered as part of the event. Open to all styles, ages and abilities.
How to Take Part
WATCH: Watch either or both of the MY Dance Challenge routines (MY Dance Challenge and MY Dance Challenge Extra) choreographed by Jamaal Burkmar.
FILM: Film your own version (max 1 minute). Feel free to add your own twist, flavour and flair.
SEND: Send us your video (max 1 minute) using the entry form (also available below) to be part of the film.
SHARE: Feel free to share you work on your own socials using #mydancechallenge and tag Dance4 and DanceXchange using our social media handles below:
