FUBUNATION is in residence at iC4C December 2021 and again in February and March 2022, working on BLACK IS…
FUBUNATION are researching and developing a new body of work entitled THE BLACK IS SERIES displayed through dance performance, documentary and photography.
Looking at themes of sexuality, homophobia, heritage & racial displacement under the umbrella of identity within black communities, FUBUNATION is confronting the conflict of never really belonging in a western society that excludes African & Caribbean people’s contribution to its legacy.
How does this internal conflict of cultures compromise our sense of identity?
BLACK IS… challenges perceptions around black cultures by exploring diversity within the diaspora honouring the collective heritage black people share as a result of marginalisation in a landscape of social structures, traditions and societal expectations whilst acknowledging that our experiences are varied and nuanced.
