Following BEHIND and BETWEEN, Montreal-based choreographer Marie Béland pushes further her exploration of our body habits, continues her stagings of our behaviour’s physicality through speech.
BESIDE uses real-time radio as a partition imposed on the performers (Rachel Harris, Sylvain Lafortune, Bernard Martin), thus bringing inside the theater fragments of life outside of it, fragments of this “beside”. What kind of discourses can be found among news reports, pop music, interviews and car advertising? How can this heterogeneous web become the framework of a choreography? How can the bodies and the stage make this invisible visible? In this final piece of a surprising and playful trilogy, Marie Béland explores the ways our bodies are modeled, contaminated by the social environment, the ways they in return contaminate it.
