Due to the current situation and in response to government guidelines, iC4C is now closed to the public until Monday 15 June and therefore this Sunday Supplement has been cancelled.

How We Handle Things and how things handle us.

Join artist and choreographer Mark Bleakley in exploring touch and our relationship to objects in a participatory audience experience in development for the new performance installation titled How We Handle Things.

How We Handle Things explores the shifting relationships that we have with bodies, objects, memories and touch. Investigated through a contemporary lens, performers and audience build a landscape together – a mix of flesh and plastic, simultaneously revered and disposable.

This Sunday Supplement includes a demonstration and participatory process of making casts (parts such as fingers, hands and arms) using a safe medical grade thermoplastic which takes shape with warmth and touch. Informal discussion will be invited focusing on humans’ relationships to the material world and the physical experience of being part of the casting process. A sharing of live performance from How We Handle Things will follow, accompanied by a collection of research materials.

Mark invites you to join this research in how and why we place value upon the objects around us and how our bodies are transformed through their interactions.

Suitable for 16 and over.
