This class will investigate moving through and with the back: working with a notion of the ‘dorsal’ as a way of orientating to our body and to others within the architectural space of the studio.

We will also explore how moving backwards opens different sets of relation between spinal axis, weight, breath, surface, vision and time than is usually experienced in our general forward motion – often manifesting as a slightly disorientating force.

Through partner-work and group scores that operate as choreographic devices, the class brings attention to the dorsal as an entry point into our own moving bodies and moving together.

The class shares ideas and ongoing research for Katrina’s choreographic project tilt/rhythm/back: dances and drawings.
