Lay down, rest on me, slow, use my horizontal surface, pour your body into this sure, hard plane. Beneath your feet, let your face and body sink.

A public intervention, a simple action. Performers use portable mirrored slats as resting places, in shopping centres, train station concourse, and green spaces across the city to intervene and interrupt the vertical and the conventions of public space.

Site specific in various locations across Nottingham city centre:  Nottingham Train Station, Sneinton Market and Nottingham Contemporary.

Florence Peake’s practice encompasses visual art, dance and performance. Recent work has been concerned with the often hidden production processes of artworks, interacting with, re-imagining and re- framing the procedures, actions and gestures involved in both making a piece of work and packaging it (literally). Florence often incorporates large-scale objects and materials that change and re-form in front of the audience. Florence’s practice uses drawing, painting and sculpture materials combined with found, appropriated and fabricated objects placed in relationship to the moving body. Site and the placement of performance and audience, live and recorded text, as well as a well-developed sense of wit and humour, are key to her body of work.

Florence is an Artsadmin Associate artist 2012-15. Her work has been shown nationally and internationally and performed at the National Portrait Gallery; BALTIC; David Roberts Art Foundation; Yorkshire Sculpture Park; Rich Mix Gallery; Herbert Art Gallery, Coventry; Toynbee Studios, London; Chapter Arts, Cardiff; Brunel University; the Exchange Gallery, Penzance.

This piece was performed as part of Nottdance 2015.
