Dance4 and Nottingham Playhouse joined forces in 2017 to host Gathering, a series of networking events specifically for D/deaf and/or disabled people engaging in choreography or theatre as a performer, director, musician, film maker or writer, both recreationally or professionally.
As part of Amplify Festival 2018 at Nottingham Playhouse, Gathering will offer a Professional Development afternoon for the network, hosted by Artist Ben Norris, prior to an evening performance as part of the programme.
Focussing on how to get your ideas from the page to the stage, this workshop will explore both the creative and practical elements of making and delivering your own work. From how to generate and interrogate the artistic ideas behind a piece, including creating characters and developing story and the storytelling devices at your disposal, to how to build relationships with organisations and secure financial and in-kind support for your work, apply for funding, and build a tour.
Led by award-winning East Midlands writer-performer Ben Norris, whose debut show opened at the 2015 Edinburgh Fringe before touring the UK, transferring to the Southbank Centre in London, and finishing with a season at the Adelaide Fringe.
The CPD afternoon will follow on from a workshop run by Arts Council England on funding (1 -3pm) that people are welcome to attend, and prior to two evening shows that cost an additional £16 (optional).
Ben will be performing his work in progress, The Distance, as part of Amplify on Thursday 11th October.
Amplify 18 is the first festival as part of Nottingham Playhouse’s new Artist Development Programme Amplify.
During the week 8 – 14 October 2018, we’ll be showcasing performances and works-in-progress made by artists who live in or originate from the East Midlands (Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire, Derbyshire, Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire and Rutland), as well as offering workshops and discussions.
BSL interpreter can be available.
