Dance4 would like to congratulate all winners of the first ever dance sector-wide awards held by One Dance UK. A very special well done to David Stewart OBE DL, Head Teacher at Oak Field School, Nottingham for receiving the ‘Most Supportive Senior Leader or Governor Award’.
David Stewart and Dance4 have a long history, David has been a supporter of Dance4 since our move to Nottingham in the mid-90’s. David played an important role in creating the possibility for disabled young people in Nottingham to have access to dance training of the highest quality. His tenacious attitude and high expectation for disabled young people mean that so many individuals have had the opportunity to make dance and dancing an important part of their lives, beyond school. Since our move to the international Centre for Choreography, Oak Field School has been bringing its students to take part in creative dance sessions as David believes all young people, especially those facing many more barriers to cultural engagement should experience the very best cultural spaces. David is a wonderful advocate for dance and the arts and it is fantastic that his work and passions have been recognized with this award.
One Dance UK hosted shortlisted nominees, sponsors, supporters and leading lights from the dance sector on Saturday night for a sparkling awards ceremony at The Great Hall at Leeds Beckett university. It was an evening of celebration and a unique moment where the entire sector could come together and applaud the talented professionals and practitioners working in dance today.
Congratulations also to our friend and collaborator, Pawlet Brookes. It is a massive undertaking producing an international festival and for this to be recognised with this award is a great testament to her vision and hard work.
