Originally from the Midlands Ian has spent the last decade working as a performer, choreographer, lecturer and artist. He trained at Coventry University and Laban (where he was a member of Transitions Dance Company) and has danced for and worked with a number of international companies and artists, including Enrique Cabrera (Aracaladanza), New Art Club, Filip van Huffel (Retina Dance Company), Earthfall, Helen Stirland-Smith and Willi Dorner. He was one of the lead artists for Games Time (Lea Anderson and Gary Clarke) and ‘The Moment When…’two large scale outdoor events funded by the Cultural Olympiad. All experiences which first began to fuel his interest in outdoor work for non-traditional audiences, which eventually crystallised in the establishment of his ad-hoc company dirtmarket.
dirtmarket’s first two shows The Dancebombing Project (Developed in partnership with the Brewhouse Arts Centre, Curve Theatre and funded by Arts Council England) and Conflux (Produced by Bill Gee Associates and funded by the Canal & River Trust) where both made in response to this while his company is currently researching a new showLiar!, for smaller more intimate settings.
