Born in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, Bakani moved to England in 2005 where he has been a resident since. In 2016 he graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Choreography from Falmouth University, which he followed up with a Master’s Degree from Trinity Laban in Choreography. He is currently working as the Graduate Dance Artist at Dance4 and performing in Anthea Hamilton’s Tate Britain commission The Squash (2018).
Bakani’s research and practice focuses primarily on choreographic process and design, he has taken residencies and shadowed artists such as Russell Maliphant, Theo Clinkard, Freddie Opoku-Addaie, Jorge Crecis, Robert Clark and Leila McMillan. As well as choreographic interest he has performed across various venues and festivals including Tate Britain and Modern as well as Boomtown with Bassline Circus.
