Young Choreographers Intensive with Gabriele Reuter
£20.00 / Clarendon College, Pelham Avenue,  Nottingham

Gabriele Reuter is leading an intensive weekend to artistically support young choreographers [15-19years] in the region during nottdance08. The programme takes place on the weekend of the 26 / 27 October and aims to support young people with an interest in choreography with the potential to progress into national initiatives such as Youth Dance England’s Young Creatives.

The programme aims to give young choreographers the skills to construct innovative performance pieces through, taking part in skills workshops, viewing live and DVD work, and receiving feedback on their current work

There will also be an opportunity for participants to try out their ideas with both Gabriele and their peer’s. The intensive aims to support the making process giving participants the tools and confidence to create challenging and exciting work– Dance4 are keen to work with local young artists developing the next generation of choreographers in dance throughout the region.

Following on from the success of last year (see models of good practice) Dance4 and Nottingham Trent University have teamied up again to deliver training to students at Nottingham Trent University who are passionate about dance. The programme offers students advise, creative ideas and approaches to delivering dance within the City of Nottingham primary schools.

The course began on 20 November and culminates in a sharing of work on 23 April 2008 at Nottingham University.

Dance Activity Programme Bursaries
The Youth Dance England Dance Activity Programme Bursaries have been offered out to artists/ organizations and services across the region to support a range of creative and innovative youth dance projects across the region

These include the following School Sports Partnerships (SSP).  

 · Raunds Manor SSP, (Northamptonshire) in partnership with SO…! dancers, Northamptonshire County Council Extended Study Support, The Castle Theatre, Rowangate School and Northants Dance who are providing an opportunity for inclusive and special schools in Wellingborough to introduce their students to extra curriculum professional contemporary dance experiences.
· Derby Moor and Lees Brook SSP’s, (Derby City) in partnership with Derby Dance. Derby Dance’s current thriving youth dance company will tour, perform in 5 partnership schools. This will be followed up by a series of open workshops from which 2 new Derby Dance satellite clubs will be established with the young people producing work towards Derby Dance’s annual in house youth dance platform, Future Light.
· Ellis Guilford SSP, (Nottingham) in partnership with The Top Valley & Bigwood EIP (Extended Schools Provision) will develop the Bigwood Dance Academy inviting young people to a weekly class.
· Oadby & Wigston SSP (Leicestershire) are developing Contemporary Dance activities for young people 14-19 years old in the SSP which will consist of 2 tasters in each partnership secondary school followed by 2 accessible weekly running clubs and the opportunity for young people to become members of a youth dance Company Dance4All which will profile its work in a performance opportunity.
· Rural Derbyshire SSP (Derbyshire) in partnership with Learning through Arts are providing young talented dancers who do not have access to advanced skills opportunities that exist in the City. The programme will consist of training in African Caribbean, South Asian and Contemporary dance styles through tasters, an intensive block and weekly block of after school sessions that will then produce a performance tour within the SSP.

Sneak a peak at our episodes web page to see how young people from all over the county hit the stage once again to showcase their work in the annual youth dance platform, episodes.

On 07 and 08 December The Wheldon School & Sports College in Carlton played host to 27 groups of young people whose work explored the theme of culture. Suitcases, cowboy hats, film stars, children’s toys, high heels and some rather fetching waistcoats combined to make the most exciting and diverse work seen yet at episodes!
