Coach4dance year1
December 06-April 07

Coach4dance is a Partnership between Dance4, Nottingham Trent University and City of Nottingham School Sports Partnership. Students from Nottingham Trent University who have a passion for dance were given the opportunity to increase their skills and understanding of Dance in a new learning programme called Coach4Dance.

The programme culminated on 14 March when participating students presented their work they had created with pupils, in schools across the city of Nottingham

The aim of the programme was to encourage students to attend training sessions with Nottingham based agency Dance4, offering students advise, creative ideas and approaches to delivering dance within the City of Nottingham primary schools. The concept for the initiative was based on Coach4sport.

Following the training the students were paired accordingly to work in one of the School sports partnership (north), primary schools in the City, delivering after school sessions for 8 weeks. All partners have acted as mentors and supported the student’s professional development throughout the duration of the project.

“I have been over whelmed by their pure dedication and passion for Dance. I am delighted to welcome so many new talented dancers/ teachers to the region’s dance ecology.” Said Dance4’s Learning Manager Vanessa McGuire.

The presentation of work took place at Nottingham Trent Clifton Campus, on 14 March 2007.

The coach4dance project was recently included on the shortlist for an Outstanding Project award at the Higher Education Academy Student Volunteering Awards. The judging panel, with representatives from Student Volunteering England and Enterprise Rent-a-car (the event sponsors), commended the high quality of all the entries. We are very proud that in its first year, the coach4dance programme was nominated.

After the success of last years programme coach4dance is about to start its second years programme. On the 12 March 2008 at The Sandfield Centre, this years participants will be presenting work from their performance groups to give you an insight into how the programme is going.
