This intense and visually arresting piece shows us a man in what at first seems like just a normal flat: table, chairs and a picture on the wall. But our perspective on this set up rapidly changes as all is not as it seems. The high pitch sound of a scream slowly increases as everything changes under our very eyes.
This piece works on different scales of representation of space and sound to reveal not just a domestic interior but an interior state of mind linked to the scream. The body is the principal object here, the catalyst of everything taking place. At the heart of Hauts Cris (miniature) is the ongoing interaction between body-space and body-sound. This double combination gives the work its singularity and its incredible creative tension.
He is alone in a space that is too small for him, and each of his movements resonate in an extraordinary way, as if each change of place, however small, is burdened by enormous tension. Around him, the convivial space of a dining room seems to be crushed by his presence and ready to shatter. Perhaps it is about finding a space - like one of these ‘miniatures’ of medieval times painted on a piece of wood - which frees the subconscious from its traumas and helps it transform its complaint.
