Pia Meuthen
Pia Meuthen (Duisburg / Germany) followed her dance education at the Amsterdam School of Art and the Fontys Dance Academie in Tilburg. She has been working as a freelance choreographer since 1998. Pia was assigned different performances by different workplaces, production houses and companies in the Netherlands. Since 2002 she has worked as artistic director of Panama Pictures with which she created DesertTrip, Unmade Beds, Newbodies and Odd realiseerde. In 2005Unmade Beds was nominated for the VSCD Dance Award for the best performance of that season. Her choreography Odd is, together with two other performances, for a Dansclick tour in Holland in 2009.
Pia’s way of storytelling, in which dance and acting strengthen each other, is accessible and nuanced at the same time. She wants to tell without illustrating. She finds her inspiration in film and proza. The personality and specificity of the dancers is very important in creating the performances.
