Lucy Cash

Lucy began her career as a filmmaker and artist in 2000 with a three minute commission from the BFI / FilmFour, Three Minute Wonder closely followed by a ‘dance on screen’ commission from South East Dance - it’s aching like birds.

Originally trained in movement and performance, much of her work has been informed by a choreographic approach - considering choreography in many different forms (from abstract dance to public and private gestures). Her work draws on both fiction and documentary elements, aiming to blur the line between the real and the imaginary, and often exploring a disruption of perception.

Her diverse background supports her interest in a range of different contexts: as well as single screen moving image works, projects have included live performance and radio as well as film/video projects for gallery exhibition and also online exhibition and site specific spaces. She has twice been a visiting artist at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (for semesters in 2003 / 2005).

Her film and video work has been shown on television (Ch4, Filmfour, BBC4 and BBC2) and in over ten different countries – predominantly within Europe but also Australia, Japan, Brazil and the USA  - in both galleries and at film festivals.

In 2006 - 2007 she was awarded a research bursary from Artsadmin which resulted in a new single screen work – Sight Reading. The film has screened as part of Moves o7; Manchester Commonwealth Film Festival; Openport Realtime Performance, Sound and Language  Festival, Chicago; Falmouth Live Art Festival, and in July 2008 will be presented as part of Multichannel at ArtSway Gallery. In August 2008, Lucy has a month long Rules and Regs live art commission.

Lucy is an associate artist with Artsadmin and an associate member of Goat Island performance company.
