An insight into Luàn 亂
I am very excited to be collaborating with the MA students at Nottingham Trent University. We are a collective of 10 artists with different backgrounds and specialisations, each with our own interests and points of view. Luan, the live project, has been an inspiring creative endeavour as we discuss our ideas and the possibilities for the exhibition are explored.
At our first meeting, we looked at themes in Chinese Language film and discussed what areas we were interested in exploring. I led the group in some exercises to look at choreography as a tool for design and some physical getting to know you warm up games. After a couple of discussions and meetings, we have looked at different themes in Chinese language film and shared our interests and ideas. Everyone has written proposals outlining their ideas for creation and I have helped to find ties to create a cohesive idea together. We are drawing inspiration from modern martial arts Chinese films as well as contrasting these images with older Chinese films. We want to create an immersive experience that allows the audience to engage with the exhibit and invite them to look at their own ideas related to Chinese film. Our next stage is to start exploring and developing these ideas.
