Big Dance – Big Record Attempt on Friday 18 May 2012

Over 300 local young people will attempt to break records with a mass dance event on Friday 18 May at the Ravendale Sports Ground in Lincoln.

Organised by artsNK in partnership with Lincoln College, this event is part of the Big Dance Schools Pledge and a major part of the Big Dance programme in the East Midlands. It is particularly exciting in that this mass record attempt will be the only one held in Lincolnshire.

Amy Dalton and Holly Arnold from artsNK’s Dance Development Team have been working with local primary and secondary school dance teachers guiding them through the five-minute dance piece before they rehearse their students in readiness for the record attempt.

The dance has been choreographed by Wayne McGregor CBE, Resident Choreographer at the Royal Ballet and is inspired by the Olympics so it is fitting that it will be performed on the same day that the Olympic Torch arrives in the UK.

Schools around the whole world will take to their school halls, playgrounds, playing fields or to public spaces and perform the choreography. The current record is held by the Netherlands with 264,188 people and 1,472 locations.

The record attempt will take place at 1pm on Ravendale Sports Ground, Lincoln.
